Sensoryx at the Beijing International Film Festival: Blending Innovation with Cinematic Diplomacy

As Switzerland took center stage as Country of Honor at the 15th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), the Swiss Embassy in China made a bold choice: to celebrate not only Swiss cinematic excellence but also the nation’s forward-thinking technology. Among the diverse Swiss delegation of filmmakers, producers, and festival leaders, Sensoryx proudly represented the frontier of spatial interaction and digital artistry.

Swiss Week at BJIFF 2025

A Delegation Grounded in Creativity—With an Eye to the Future

In keeping with BJIFF’s growing attention to XR and immersive media, the Swiss delegation was intentionally curated to showcase both cultural legacy and technological vision:

Film Industry Leaders: Directors, producers, and curators took part in Swiss Film Week, conducted masterclasses at top institutions including BFA and PKU, and contributed to jury duties for the Tiantan Awards.

Tech and Storytelling: Anaïs Emery, Executive and Artistic Director of the Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF), joined the delegation as a champion of emergent narrative formats—XR, VR, and beyond—reinforcing the notion that the future of film includes immersive experiences.

An Embassy Gala Reimagined Through Spatial Tools

On April 22, the Swiss Embassy in Beijing hosted a private gala attended by leading Chinese filmmakers, diplomats, and cultural innovators. While Swiss classics posters were displayed outdoors, Sensoryx transformed the reception space into an interactive zone where guests engaged directly with spatial technology:

MALIANG Magic Pencil—our dual-reality stylus—allowed guests to sketch luminous strokes in mid-air, turning traditional autographing into spatial artistry.

Real-Time Projection: A live feed displayed guests’ 3D signatures and illustrations on an LED wall, building a collaborative “digital fresco” that evolved throughout the evening.

A Moment of Artistic Brilliance with Sun Yitian

Rising contemporary-art star Sun Yitian, fresh from her playful collaboration with Louis Vuitton in Shanghai, picked up the MALIANG Magic Pencil for her first foray into immersive creation. Surrounded by cameras and smartphones, she improvised a spatial artwork, sending the audience into rapt applause and flooding WeChat with clips minutes later.

Why This Matters

Tech as Cultural Metaphor: By replacing the leather-bound guest book with spatial autographs, Sensoryx illustrated Swiss innovation in a way that was both tactile and poetic—precise, human-centered, and seamlessly digital.

Spatial Tools in Ceremony: The “Virtual Signing Book” demonstrated how motion-tracking tools can elevate not only entertainment, but formal events—merging tradition with next-gen interaction.
