Sensoryx @ FEELING SPATIAL: A Journey Into Immersive Creativity
On November 8, 2024, sensoryx participated in FEELING SPATIAL, a bilingual masterclass dedicated to exploring the forefront of spatial computing and immersive experiences and hosted by Downtown Studio in Geneva. The event combined insightful presentations, live demonstrations, and hands-on interaction, creating an atmosphere rich with innovation and inspiration.
The Evolution of Spatial Design: Salar Shahna’s Insightful Opening
The evening began with a compelling session led by our very own Salar Shahna. As the Winner of Downtown Studio’s Explore Program, he set the stage by exploring the history and evolution of spatial design apps. He delved into pioneering VR apps such as Quill and Tilt Brush and progressed to contemporary powerhouses like Unity and Unreal Engine, which allow creators to develop immersive VR experiences with impressive sophistication. He also highlighted innovative and educative platforms like Gesture VR and zoe, which further enhance the creative ecosystem by providing tools and experiences that empower artists and developers to explore and create in mixed and virtual reality.
Salar highlighted the practical benefits and accessibility of using Meta’s Oculus Quest for independent creators, noting its ideal balance of performance and affordability. He emphasized that Downtown Studio fosters a thriving ecosystem where artists, designers, and developers can collaborate and innovate. Through our new branch, sensoryx creative, creators at Downdown Studio now have access to cutting-edge spatial computing and motion capture tools, empowering them to push their creative boundaries and bring their ideas to life.
Exploring Tools for Creative Empowerment: Dr. Rolf Adelsberger’s Vision
A highlight of the “FEELING SPATIAL” event was Dr. Rolf Adelsberger’s engaging session. As the CEO and Founder of sensoryx, Rolf traced the evolution of human tools, showcasing their role as essential extensions of human capabilities—from achieving speed with vehicles to achieving precision with surgical instruments.
He then shifted to discussing the current landscape of VR tools, noting that while many share common features like buttons and controls, they often lack intuitive usability. This challenge motivated sensoryx to create tools that foster natural, fluid interactions.
The MALIANG Magic Pencil: Bridging Real and Virtual Worlds
At the core of Rolf’s presentation was the MALIANG Magic Pencil—a pioneering stylus designed for seamless use between 2D screens and 3D VR environments. Unlike standard digital tools, MALIANG offers an intuitive and accessible creative experience, enabling artists to express themselves effortlessly. The audience was particularly intrigued by its integration with Gesture VR, where participants could experiment and see the ease with which their creative ideas came to life.
Participants were invited to try the MALIANG Magic Pencil firsthand, making this demonstration a standout moment of the event. First-time VR users, initially hesitant about navigating an invisible canvas while wearing headsets, soon found themselves immersed in the process, amazed at how natural and responsive the stylus felt.
Feedback and Impressions
The feedback on the MALIANG Magic Pencil was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees appreciated its ability to simplify the transition from physical to virtual creation, enabling them to sketch, and design without barriers. This tool reinforced sensoryx’s commitment to pioneering user-friendly, innovative solutions that enhance artistic expression.
Rolf’s emphasis on tools as extensions of human potential resonated deeply with attendees, sparking discussions about the transformative role of technology in the creative industries.
Other Highlights and Artistic Presentations
Artists Nick Ladd and Nicholas Saunders joined remotely to present Gesture VR, a groundbreaking platform that empowers creatives to practice drawing from photo-scanned models. This app breaks down traditional obstacles such as time, space, and resource constraints, allowing creators to engage in their practice from the comfort of their homes. The latest passthrough feature, enabling sketching in mixed reality, was a particular highlight. As authors of this blog post, sensoryx is proud to have partnered with Nick and Nicholas. The MALIANG Magic Pencil is fully integrated into their app and can be used in place of the regular headset controller, providing an even more seamless and natural drawing experience.
The event concluded with an inspiring talk from French-Swiss sculptor and digital artist Alexia Weill. She showcased her journey back to digital art using VR tools like Gravity Sketch, presenting her works on a massive LED wall. Weill’s story of merging traditional sculpting with advanced VR techniques captivated the audience and sparked excitement for the possibilities of immersive art.
